Storyboarding Workshop

Saturday November 12th, 2016

12:00am – 2:00pm / Age 10-12

with Brown Bag Films
(Creators of Doc McStuffins, Octonauts and Henry Hugglemonster.)

From low budget short films to high end Hollywood blockbusters all animated films start with storyboards. Led by director and storyboard artist Damien O’Connor (Doc McStuffins, Octonauts, Noddy, Olivia The Pig) this fun and informal class will teach kids all about storyboarding – What is a storyboard? What are they used for? And more importantly, what is the best way to visually tell a story! By the end of the class the participants will have been guided through the creation of their very own storyboards and if your child can’t draw don’t worry – the class is a lot more focused on storytelling, imagination and having fun than creating pretty pictures.

  • Learn the purpose of storyboards and animatics (rough board, final board, animatic and how the animatic translates onto screen)
  • Start your own board (wide, med, close up.)
  • Participate in group exercises using Humpty Dumpty storyboard.

Facilitator Damien O’Connor has written and directed five award winning animated shorts: Mutt, Ledog, the IFTA nominated Dick Terrapin, IFTA nominated After You and Anya. He has worked as an editor on Noddy, Olivia the Pig and The Octonauts and as storyboard artist on several TV series. Damien currently directs episodes of the BAFTA nominated, NAACP and Peabody award winning Doc McStuffins for Disney Jnr/Brown Bag Films.
