In association with An Taisce Green-Schools, we invite your school to a free screening of ‘On The Way To School’ (Sur le chemin de l’école), a 76 minute feature documentary (French with English subtitles) on Friday 17th May at 10a.m. in the Town Hall Theatre. The screening is suited to 5th and 6th class students.
This event is taking place as part of An Taisce Green-School’s ‘Walk To School Week’, which takes place from Monday May 13th to Friday May 17th. Schools across Ireland are invited to celebrate National Walk to School Week 2019, which takes place from Monday May 13th to Friday, May 17th. This is a country-wide initiative which will result in thousands of pupils, their parents and teachers walking to and from school, to celebrate the environmental, health, social and financial benefits of active travel on the school journey. This is the eleventh year Green-Schools has run National Walk to School Week, which will be promoted to over 2000 participating schools! More information on the week is available here.
Building on the success of last year’s National Walk to School Week ’18, Green-Schools hopes that schools will help achieve the target of 20,000 pupils walking to school all over Ireland on National WOW (Walk On Wednesday) Day on May 15th.
The film itself is about young people in four very different countries making their daily journey to school. Travelling on foot, horseback or in a wheelchair, from India, Kenya, Argentina and Morocco, the film follows the four journeys across mountains, idyllic landscapes and rough terrains. The children are filled with determination, and, though far apart, they are united in a belief that school is a place worth making an effort to reach.
The film will be introduced and a resources guide will be available for teachers to take away on the day.
